Eight grades.
One standard.

Cardamom is sold by the size of the pod, measured in millimetres. Bigger pods cost more; smaller ones go further in a spice blend. Whatever you need, every grade is cleaned, dried and sieved with the same care.

Understanding Grades

What the millimetres mean

After drying, the pods pass through a series of sieves with round holes of different sizes. A pod that will not fall through a 8 mm hole is an 8 mm pod. That single number tells a buyer most of what they need to know: bigger pods look better on a plate, hold more seeds and fetch a higher price.

Size is not everything. We also check colour — a deep, even green shows the pod was dried gently — and look for split, empty or discoloured pods, which go into a lower grade rather than being hidden in a good one.

Judging Quality

Four things to check in any cardamom

Use these when you compare our sample with anyone else's. We are happy to be judged this way.

Colour

Bright, even green. Pale or patchy pods were dried too hot or stored too long.

Aroma

Crush one pod: the smell should be strong, sweet and cooling, not dusty.

Fullness

Firm pods packed with dark, sticky seeds. Hollow pods weigh light in the hand.

Cleanliness

No stalks, dust, stones or broken husks at the bottom of the bag.

Pick by what the cardamom will do, not just by how it looks.

8 MM Bold and up. Big, even pods make a strong first impression.

Supermarket packs

7.5–8 MM for a uniform look through a clear pouch.

Biryani & curries

7–8 MM. Whole pods that hold up in long cooking.

Questions

About our products

Quick answers on grades, freshness and packing.

What does "MM" mean on a grade?

It is the pod's diameter in millimetres, measured by the sieve it will not pass through. Bigger number, bigger pod.

Is a rejection grade poor quality?

No. The pods have small marks, splits or uneven colour, so they are sold for grinding instead of display. The flavour is still there.

Do bigger pods taste stronger?

Not necessarily. Aroma depends mostly on how the pods were grown, dried and stored. Bigger pods mainly look better and hold more seeds each.

How long does cardamom stay fresh?

Whole pods in an airtight container, away from heat and light, keep their aroma for many months. Powder fades much faster.

Can you pack under my brand?

Yes, we offer private labelling. Tell us the pack size and design you have in mind.

Not sure which grade to pick?

Tell us what you make or sell, and we will send samples of two or three grades to compare.
